Description
Effect: (Introduction by Steve Schneiderman): I am honored to have this opportunity to introduce you to the magic of Eric DeCamps. We originally met at one of the last Larry Weeks’ all-day conventions way back in 1977.
Eric and I were introduced by way of a mutual friend. We simply nodded courteous hellos and that was it. We didn’t see each other again until the next Weeks’ convention. At that time, Eric was demonstrating magic behind one of the dealer’s booths, and he stopped me as 1 made my rounds. “You’re Steve Schneiderman, aren’t you?” he asked. “Why yes. Yes 1 am!” 1 said as 1 lowered my voice and tried to sound as professional as possible. 1 didn’t remember Eric at all, but I was flattered that somebody knew me. Anyway, after Eric explained who he was and how we had met a few months ago, I uttered a line he has never let me live down: “Gee, the face is familiar, but I can’t quite place the name.” He looked at me with a smile, shook his head, and repeatedly smacked me on the back quite hard while all the time exclaiming what a joker I was.
So he and I exchanged phone numbers as magical youths so often do, and the next weekend we got together. At the time, we were both around eighteen. I desperately wanted to become a big name in magic, so right from the start, I was out to impress Eric with my original and bizarre approach to close-up magic. I showed him some of my pet tricks, and told him I was the second best card man in New York. He acknowledged my tricks politely but not with the excitement I had hoped. I had just shown him effects I had been working on in secret for years, and all he had to say was “That’s pretty good, Steve. Let me show you this new packet trick about peanuts.” Peanuts? I was angry. I mean, here I was showing him top notch original magic, and he wanted to show me packet tricks about peanuts. The nerve.
Since then, Eric and I have done a complete 180 turn. Now he spends all of his time coming up with original twists on classic effects and creating new effects, which might one day become classics, themselves. And all I want to do is play with the newest self-working tricks from Tenyo!
The magic you are about to learn here is the best kind of magic in the world because of its direct approach and high entertainment value. It is all very commercial magic, well suited for walk-around or a formal close-up show.
Furthermore, due to his extreme fanaticism about the topic, he has created a number of unique solutions to some classic problems. In here, you will find effects that are simple and complex. If you take your time and learn this stuff, you won’t be sorry. Enjoy!
