Description
The Clausen Chips were first released in 1987 with two effects supplied, although a third was very soon added. Then in 1988 the number was increased to six with the appearance of a 23 page booklet. Finally in 1995 a larger set of instructions was included with 33 pages and 14 effects featuring all of the routines that had been submitted and collected together.
There really is something for everyone in the final list of routines and I chose to perform two of the simpler but still effective routines on video: Silk ‘N’ Chips and Flash Double Chip Change.
Includes:
- Five Chips that make up The Clausen Chips
- Gimmick and reset tool.
- Two 12″ silks (bonus).
- Two plastic glasses (bonus).
- The 1988 and 1995 instruction booklets.
Effect: Beautiful props – easy to do, strong magic – that is what has made THE CLAUSEN CHIPS such a great quick selling success!
The brass chips have brightly coloured inlaid centres and their weight and looks shout quality’ all the way. You receive a set of 5 of the chips, one of which is faked to enable you to create visual miracles without any sleight of hand!
Fourteen routines are provided written by Mark Leveridge unless otherwise stated :
- Three Colour Chip Surprise – uses a single chip which changes color three times!
- Confusing Chips – where two chips change places in the hand and the pocket and change to a completely different color in the end.
- Silk ‘N’ Chips (Len Ball) – A yellow and a green chip are wrapped in a silk and placed in a glass. A red and blue chip are then wrapped in a second silk and slipped into a second wine glass. Two spectators pick up the glasses and gently touch them together. This causes the ‘dominant’ blue and red chips to affect the other two because when the yellow and green chips are unwrapped by a spectator, they are seen to have also changed to red and blue.
- Chip Prediction (Bruce Hetzler) – A blank sticker is placed on one of the chips and covered with another chip. A card is then selected. The top chip is now removed revealing the name of the selected card printed on the sticker.
- Flash Double Chip Change – A yellow and a green chip are shown. Instantly they change to a blue chip and a red chip, both chips being examinable – only two chips used!
- Flash Double Chip Change 2 (Bruce Hetzler) – A yellow and a green chip are displayed and placed into a spectator’s hand. Placing his closed hand behind his back, the spectator is asked to transfer one chip into his other hand and to then bring both hands out closed. He is asked to indicate which hands he thinks contains the yellow chip. Whatever he says, when he opens his hands he discovers he is actually holding a red chip and a blue chip!
- Chip Sandwich (Bob Yelland) (- A pile of three chips is assembled, a yellow chip being sandwiched between two blue ones. A red chip is shown and placed into the left hand. Instantly the left hand is opened to show that there is now a YELLOW chip where the red one had been. A spectator is asked to spread the stack of three chips on the table and he discovers the red one trapped between the two blues. All chips can be examined.
- Chip Exchange (Bruce Hetzler) – Three different coloured chips are shown. Two are placed in the performer’s hand, while the third is placed in his pocket. Instantly, the chip in the pocket changes places with one of the chips in the hand. The effect is repeated, this time using the spectator’s hand. Finally, one chip is placed in the spectator’s hand and one in the performer’s hand. The chips change places again.
- Colour Mental – A multi-phase mentalism effect with all five chips.
- Three Colour Chip Surprise 2 – A single green poker chip is shown both sides. A single playing card is also freely displayed. Holding the card horizontally in the left hand, the performer places the green chip onto the left fingers under the card. Moments later when it is removed, the chip has changed to yellow – both sides! The yellow chip is slipped back under the card and when it emerges it has changed back to green. Just when the audience think they are getting wise to what is going on, the chip is slid back under the card and this time comes out BLUE! The chip and card are left for examination.
- Spellbound Chip (Stuart Bowie) – A single chip changes colour three times as the magician passes his hand across it.
