Description
Here is another of the many Perspex bottles made by Anverdi that first appeared in his book Anverdi’s Miracles With Liquids. There are two bottles that Anverdi created that are almost exactly the same bottle – the Wonder Bottle and the Universal Bottle. The only difference is that in the Universal Bottle two small disks are glued to the bottom and top of the neck vs. being loose with the Wonder Bottle. Some of the effects described can be done with either bottle.
However, many of the effects require special chemicals to achieve them. This might be a good time to talk about chemicals – there is no doubt many of the featured liquid effects by Anverdi require special chemicals which might not be so easy or desirable to obtain these days. Remember Anverdi used Chloroform to glue the bottles together – yes Chloroform, not sure I want to go down that road. Also many of his liquid effects were combined with special trays and glasses to perform some absolute miracles, but the set-up requirements make them far less desirable to perform these days.
There are two effects you can use with the Universal Bottle and the Wonder Bottle that don’t require any chemicals (except for possibly food coloring) and I will describe these two below.
There is no doubt the Universal Bottle and Wonder Bottle are both very well made with lots of specially designed parts and creating items like this today would not be easy. The work Anverdi pioneered in the 1960’s and 1970’s still hold up incredible well and Anverdi remains the master of Perspex and Plexiglas designs even over fifty years later.
(Notice: in the second photo you can see a small “v” shaped nick in the top part of the bottle – this has no impact in normal usage and is never seen by the spectator.)
Effect: The magician makes a cone from a newspaper and empties a bottle of wine into it. After putting the empty bottle down on the table, he opens the newspaper and rips it up, after which it is patently obvious that the wine has completely disappeared. (This requires chemicals to perform.)
Effect 2: This bottle can be used like the principle of the milk jug. Bring it in position to pour milk into a glass, nothing comes out but some milk has gone. “Maybe there’s another hole in the bottom”, you say. Close the bottle and turn it upside down. All the milk falls down into the top part. “There’s no hole”. Turn the bottle back after looking for a hole. The bottle is now full again. (No special chemicals are used.)
Effect 3: After taking the bottle, the magician searches for a glass. He can’t find one and pulls the top part off. He can use the bottom part like a glass and takes a sip and he first shows the audience that some liquid has gone. Before putting the bottle back on the table, he turns the whole bottle upside The bottle is full again and that is what the audience sees so he can now take another drink. (No special chemicals are used.)
